Members,
The 2017 golf season is around the corner! As you’ve heard from Scott Niven, Stanwich experienced another very successful year with nearly 21,000 rounds in 2016 -- the second year in a row. We continue to be one of the premier, and most sought after, golf experiences in our area.
Our principal goals for this year include maintaining the quality of golf experience for all players and preserving a reasonable level of member access to the golf course. Our busiest tee times routinely occur during the weekend twosome times (7:00-9:00 am on Saturday/Sunday). The twosome tee times are often fully subscribed. Additionally, our level of guest play represented more than 40% of our total play in 2016. There’s no doubt that the course draws enormous interest from many.
Consistent with our goals, the Golf Committee has made an important change for 2017. Beginning Opening Day (April 29), play prior to 8:00 am will be reserved solely for our members. We will continue to have twosome slots available for member with guest play in the 8:00-9:00 am timeframe. We will monitor this change carefully and adjust as necessary.
Separately, Stanwich will begin implementing a Local Rule change recently introduced by the USGA and the R&A. Players will no longer be penalized if their ball or ball marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment. If moved, the moved ball or ball marker must be replaced. This Local Rule applies only when the player’s ball or ball marker lies on the putting green and any movement is accidental.
Congratulations to last year’s Club Champions — Susana Vik and Craig Manchuck!
On behalf of the Golf Committee, I’d like to wish everyone a 2017 golf season filled with great memories!
Sincerely,
Bryan Jennings
Chairman, Men's Golf Committee
