Dear Member,
We regret to inform you that our former member Ann Laibe passed away November 25th. We extend our condolences to the Laibe family. The following is from the family:
Ann Jessie Davis Laibe, of Greenwich, Connecticut and Nantucket, Massachusetts passed away November 25 after a prolonged illness. Born July 20, 1929 to the late Robert V. and Caroline Schroeder Davis and raised in Scranton, PA, Ann graduated from Scranton Central High School in 1947 and attended Skidmore College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1951.
After graduation, she worked in summer stock in Saratoga, NY, taught at the Tuxedo Park School, and worked in New York City, where she met her beloved John Laibe, to whom she was married in 1957. Their wedded life began in Brooklyn Heights, then proceeded to Connecticut, Hong Kong, and Miami before returning to Connecticut in 1980. Along the way they traveled extensively, usually with their five children.
Ann enjoyed educating young children and did so at a number of schools, including the Montessori school in Miami, and the Round Hill Nursery School in Greenwich. She also tutored adults in reading with Literacy Volunteers of America. She and John volunteered in numerous local activities, notably the soup kitchen in Stamford, CT via their parish of St. Michael the Archangel in Greenwich. In addition, they gave to local nonprofits, including Greenwich Hospital.
Ann loved reading, gardening and correspondence, keeping up with friends and family with the increasingly uncommon method of letter writing.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband John and daughter Constance, as well as her sister Carol Davis Norton. She is survived by her brothers Dr. Robert V. Davis and Col. Richard C. Davis, daughter Anne Laibe Bertolino; sons Marc, Christopher and Timothy, their spouses, and 16 adoring grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial will be held Dec. 7 at 11:00 am at St. Michael the Archangel Church in Greenwich. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Ann's name to one’s chosen charity or to Family Centers, 40 Arch St, Greenwich CT 06830 www.familycenters.org.
Sincerely,
